Glenn L McGrathc4698b32002-12-08 20:45:47 +000014Description: Tiny utilities for small and embedded systems
Eric Andersenb108a5b2000-06-19 09:21:34 +000015 BusyBox combines tiny versions of many common UNIX utilities into a single
16 small executable. It provides minimalist replacements for the most common
Eric Andersen77d92682001-05-23 20:32:09 +000017 utilities you would usually find on your desktop system (i.e., ls, cp, mv,
18 mount, tar, etc.). The utilities in BusyBox generally have fewer options than
Eric Andersenb108a5b2000-06-19 09:21:34 +000019 their full-featured GNU cousins; however, the options that are included
20 provide the expected functionality and behave very much like their GNU
21 counterparts.
22 .
Eric Andersene2f6e122000-12-01 19:55:04 +000023 This package installs the BusyBox binary but does not install symlinks
24 for any of the supported utilities. You can use /bin/busybox --install
25 to install BusyBox to the current directory (you do not want to do this
26 in / on your Debian system!).

Glenn L McGrathc4698b32002-12-08 20:45:47 +000034Description: Standalone rescue shell with tons of builtin utilities
Eric Andersenb108a5b2000-06-19 09:21:34 +000035 BusyBox combines tiny versions of many common UNIX utilities into a single
36 small executable. It provides minimalist replacements for the most common
Eric Andersen77d92682001-05-23 20:32:09 +000037 utilities you would usually find on your desktop system (i.e., ls, cp, mv,

Eric Andersenb108a5b2000-06-19 09:21:34 +000039 their full-featured GNU cousins; however, the options that are included
40 provide the expected functionality and behave very much like their GNU
41 counterparts.
42 .
43 BusyBox-static provides you with a statically linked simple stand alone shell
44 that provides all the utilities available in BusyBox. This package is
45 intended to be used as a rescue shell, in the event that you screw up your
46 system. Invoke "busybox sh" and you have a standalone shell ready to save
47 your system from certain destruction. Invoke "busybox", and it will list the
48 available builtin commands.
